About the Series

Our work at Inclusion Canada is guided by our shared belief in the values of inclusion, equality, diversity, and courage to act. Our position statements:

We want to share this important information with you in a way that is engaging and accessible!

Please join us for a three-part webinar series that explores:

  • Issues impacting people with an intellectual disability and their families
  • Why these issues matter
  • What needs to be done to address these issues
  • How you can get involved

Each webinar will be 60 minutes in length. Presentations by panelists will take 40 minutes, followed by a 20 minute questions & answers period.

Sessions will be delivered by a team of facilitators with lived expertise, policy experience, and technical expertise.

  • Self-advocates
  • Family members and friends of people with an intellectual disability
  • People working for disability organizations, including Inclusion Canada federation members
  • Policy makers and elected officials
  • Anyone interested in learning more about issues impacting people with an intellectual disability and their families

Session 1 – Our Take: Inclusion Canada’s Position on Employment

This webinar will:

  • Discuss the current employment realities of people with an intellectual disability
  • Define inclusive employment (what it is, and what it is not)
  • Explore factors that support or impede inclusive employment
  • Offer steps to ensure people with an intellectual disability are employed at the same rate as the general population

Session 2 – Our Take: Inclusion Canada’s Positions on Income Security for Individuals & Families
May 26, 2022 @ 1:00pm EST

This webinar will:

  • Describe the current financial realities faced by people with an intellectual disability and their families
  • Discuss the factors that contribute to poverty for people with an intellectual disability and their families
  • Present steps to ensure people with an intellectual disability and their families have the income they need for a good quality of life, allowing them to participate in all aspects of society

Session 3 – Our Take: Inclusion Canada’s Position on Housing
June 30 @ 1:00pm EST

This webinar will:

  • Explore housing options currently offered to people with an intellectual disability in Canada
  • Explain why institutional housing continues to exist and the problems with this model
  • Define inclusive housing
  • Provide steps to ensure inclusive, affordable housing, where people with an intellectual disability have the support they need to live in typical homes in community

Webinars will be held in English. French simultaneous interpretation will be provided. English and French CART captioning, ASL and LSQ will be available.
